Gift will light up dog exercise area
Pooches and their owners won't be exercising in the dark this winter
at Burnsville's Alimagnet Dog Park now that an anonymous donor offered
to light it up for them.
The City Council approved the project Monday to install the lights
by the end of the year, said Garrett Beck, Burnsville recreation
supervisor. Digging for the project will begin immediately. The
private donor offered to fund the $45,000 project several months
ago after reading in the park's newsletter about the need for lighting.
"It's a fantastic time because the days are getting short
for lighting," Beck said.
The park committee recognized two needs for improving the park:
a better fence and lighting. The park got a new fence this year
after winning a $10,000 award for being the third-best dog park
in the nation according to Dog Fancy magazine. With park lighting,
users can stay in the park until 10 p.m., instead of from dawn to
dusk.
